Hans Jaeger was a Norwegian writer, philosopher, and anarchist who lived from 1854 to 1910. He is best known for his role in the Norwegian anarchist movement and for his works on philosophy, aesthetics, and social criticism. Jaeger was a controversial figure during his lifetime, and his ideas often provoked strong reactions from both supporters and opponents. He was a founding member of the Norwegian Students' Society in 1879 and he published several works including "Freethinkers", "Bourgeoisie and Proletariat", and "Emperor and Galilean". However, his most famous work was his memoir, "From the Christian Community to the Anarchist Association" (1894), which chronicled his personal journey from being a religious mystic to a nihilistic anarchist. Jaeger's radical ideas and actions caused him to be shunned by Norwegian society, but his work was later rediscovered and celebrated by later generations of Norwegian intellectuals.
